A trip to the beach

We’re very lucky to be located close to some of the most stunning beaches in Cornwall — and if you’re travelling with a four-legged friend, you’re in for a treat. A trip to the beach is pure heaven for dogs, making it a must on the agenda during any dog-friendly holiday in St Ives.

For most of the year, the beaches in and around St Ives are dog friendly and open to all. However, from May to September there are restrictions on the times dogs are allowed on certain beaches. For the most up-to-date information on seasonal restrictions, visit the St Ives Town Council website.

But don’t worry! There are still plenty of fantastic dog-friendly beaches nearby to explore. One of our personal favourites is Porthkidney Beach in Lelant, where you’ll almost always find a happy mix of dogs and owners making the most of the sand. Just be sure to check the tide times before you head out, as the beach can disappear surprisingly quickly at high tide.

If you fancy a short day trip, we’d also highly recommend Boat Cove in Pendeen. There’s a gentle walk down a coastal footpath to reach it, but you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful and historic Cornish cove that dogs absolutely love exploring.

For those who’d like to venture further towards Land’s End, Nanjizal Beach is well worth the journey. Known for its dramatic sea caves and stunning turquoise lagoon, it’s a hidden Cornish gem and a truly special spot for adventurous dog walkers.
